๐ 1959 โ First Images of the Moon’s Far Side

The Soviet spacecraft Luna 3 transmitted the first photographs of the far side of the Moon back to Earth.
Because the Moon is tidally locked to Earth, the same hemisphere normally faces us. Luna 3 therefore provided humanity with its first direct photographic glimpse of terrain that had never previously been seen from Earth.
