Good morning to everyone present here.

Respected Principal, teachers, dear parents, and my beloved friends,

It gives me great pleasure to speak about Onam, the most celebrated festival of Kerala and a beautiful symbol of unity, prosperity, equality, and human goodness.

Onam is traditionally celebrated as a harvest festival. It is also associated with the beloved legendary King Mahabali, whose reign is remembered as a golden age when people lived happily, peacefully, and equally. According to tradition, Mahabali returns to visit his people during the Onam season, and we welcome him with great enthusiasm.

The celebrations of Onam bring colour and happiness into our homes and communities. We decorate our entrances with beautiful Pookkalams, wear new clothes known as Onakkodi, prepare the traditional Onam Sadya, and participate in various cultural programmes and games. Vallamkali, Thiruvathira, Pulikali, traditional games, music, and dance make the festival especially memorable.

But Onam is much more than celebrations and delicious food. It carries a powerful message for all of us.

The story of Mahabali reminds us of the importance of equality and justice. His kingdom is remembered as a place where people were treated with dignity and there was no discrimination. In today’s world, these values are more important than ever.

As high school students, we have an important role in building a better society. We can begin with simple things—respecting our classmates, helping those who struggle, avoiding discrimination, protecting nature, and standing against bullying and injustice. True celebration comes when our happiness also brings happiness to others.

Onam also teaches us the value of togetherness. People belonging to different religions, communities, and backgrounds come together to celebrate. This spirit of unity is one of the greatest strengths of Kerala.

Let us therefore celebrate this Onam not merely by wearing new clothes, preparing a grand Sadya, or making beautiful Pookkalams. Let us also renew our commitment to becoming better human beings—more compassionate, responsible, honest, and generous.

May this Onam fill our homes with happiness, our hearts with kindness, and our society with peace and harmony.
